CHILDREN VISIT THE HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT Year 6 children from Ellen Wilkinson Primary School recently went to the Houses of Parliament on an educational visit. The children were taken on an official guided tour for an hour and a half, in which they learnt about how the United Kingdom is governed and the history of the Houses of Parliament. Head Teacher, Mr Peter Simmonds said, "the children really enjoyed their visit to the Houses of Parliament, and remained entertained and interested throughout". Stephen Timms, Member of Parliament for East Ham, has arranged for children from a number of different schools to be given a guided tour around the Houses of Parliament in the forthcoming months. Stephen Timms remarked, "I am delighted that the children of East Ham have been given this opportunity to discover first hand how their country is run, and to see and hear about these historic buildings, with their stories of gunpowder plots and royal death sentences". Stephen Timms went on to say: "You are never too young to get involved in politics, and who knows, maybe one of these children will replace me as the Member of Parliament for East Ham at some point in the future!". up ] |
