About the Ledger

East Ham Ledger is an independent local magazine for East Ham and the wider London Borough of Newham. It publishes plain, practical guides in four sections: Money & Benefits, Schools & Family, Democracy & Citizenship and East Ham & Newham.

Guides are checked against official and primary sources: GOV.UK and government departments, UK Parliament, the Electoral Commission, the London Borough of Newham, the Greater London Authority, the NHS, Transport for London, Historic England and charities such as Citizens Advice. Sources are listed under each guide. Benefit rates, fees and deadlines change, often every April, so the guides explain how things work and send readers to the official page for current figures.

Between 1998 and 2003 this domain carried the constituency website of the Member of Parliament for East Ham. Its press releases and speeches are kept in the archive as a historical record. East Ham Ledger is not that website, is not published by or for any MP, party or Parliament, and takes no side in politics.
